Racial Justice

The Justice and Peace Commission works ecumenically in the organisation of an annual Racial Justice Sunday celebration. Racial Justice Sunday is marked on the second weekend of September each year. However, we try to make links between Racial Justice Sunday and Black History Month which falls in October, and so our celebrations occur in late September.

2007 also marks the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the Slave Trade. This year we will also be looking at ways to mark this anniversary.

The Commission also works with other faiths and has recently been involved with the setting up of the West Yorkshire Community Chaplaincy Project.

Racial Justice Sunday & Black History Month

2006 celebrations will take place on Sunday 24th September at St.Aidan’s Church, Roundhay Road, Leeds .
