The Diocesan Refugee Support Group invite all who are interested to come along to this information evening about the West Yorkshire Destitute Asylum Network.
The WYDAN Night shelter in Leeds is looking for more host organisations.
Could your Parish open its doors and offer a warm welcome for 10 destitute asylum seeker men for a week?
Whether you are a Parish Priest or Parishioner, have a large Parish Centre or other building which might be available, belong to a Churches Together group or other organisation; please come along to our information evening to find out more about hosting the Leeds night shelter.
Full training, information and support will be provided by WYDAN
This is your opportunity to respond to Pope Francis’ appeal to every Parish and every religious community to provide a sanctuary for refugees.
Volunteers from host organisations have shared:‘It has made me open my eyes to the lives of asylum seekers‘ and ‘It’s a great thing to support our guests (the nights I was there the weather was dreadful).’
Another described how it ‘brought us together as a community, gave us the chance to serve and love our guests in their distress, and helped us all to resist the national ‘immigrants are not welcome’ narrative in a practical and meaningful way.’
The WYDAN night shelter will open again in early August – can we help keep it open into 2019!
